Key Points

Salary: Average advertised salaries are flat year-on-year, with a mild increase of +1% to $94,044.

Job Vacancies: Job advertisements dropped sharply in January, down 12.4% from December. We expect to see a strong increase leading into February.

Competition: Competition for jobs has increased sharply to 6.00 job seekers per vacancy, up from 5.30 in December.

Western Australia: Western Australia has usurped South Australia as the toughest state to find a job, with 10.88 job seekers competing for each job.

Best Performer:
Engineering

  • The Engineering industry recorded strong salary growth of 5% year-on-year to reach an average advertised salary of $112,651.

 

  • The highest paying job in Engineering is a Director of Engineering position at a solar farm in Melbourne, Victoria, which pays a yearly salary of $180,000.

 

  • The top three hirers for Engineers in Australia are Hitachi, Downer, and AECOM.
