Understanding what makes a brand tick is one of the key skills for becoming a brand manager. Brand managers are the people who create an impression about a brand among the people who buy the brand with the goal of improving market share and sales.
Basically, a brand manager markets a company's brand/s and products and directs the brand image in the marketplace. They decide which new products meet market trends and which need to be phased out. They also determine the right pricing for a product.
Brand managers often work for advertising agencies, marketing consultancies and corporate companies in an office environment. Employers include manufacturers and retailers of food, drink, clothes and electrical products, and companies involved in providing financial services, travel, leisure or entertainment.
Brand managers may also be employed in house by public sector bodies, charities and training and recruitment firms.
They are often expected to visit clients and potential customers and may need to work evenings and on weekends to meet deadlines.
They work closely with others involved in the development and production of products and services such as product developers, researchers and marketing personnel.
