The primary role a Mechanical Fitter is to put parts that are made of metal together using welding machinery. The parts that Mechanical Fitters work with can be from a variety of different industries such as plumbing and electrical, and can involve equipment such as pipes and fittings. Another part of the Mechanical Fitter's job may be to take things apart as well as put them together.
For every Mechanical Fitter job placement, it is crucial that they are fully capable of following all safety practices to ensure safety among other worksite employees. This can include of properly using and taking care of all portable electric hand tools, and other non-electric tools such as drills, reamers and taps.
Not only must they know how to properly use the job-related tools, but also how to evaluate and determine the specific materials that need to be used for a particular job.
Mechanical fitters must have excellent skills when it comes to hand and eye coordination as they use folding machines to cut sheets of metal. They must have knowledge of all types of materials used in various settings
