About our team

SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Located near the scenic Southern Highlands and only a 45 minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast.

About the role

Reporting to the Environment and Community Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic direction of site environmental management, whilst maintaining compliance to the Mine Operating System (MOS), Environmental Management System (EMS) and legislative requirements. You will employ and direct the appropriate resources to undertake a safe, highly productive, efficient and cost effective mining process.


Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Develop and maintain the best practice to assess Environmental Monitoring Programs: dust, noise, water, odour, etc.
  • Understand and ensure site compliance to legislative requirements.
  • Assist in the engagement with key stakeholders, including the community, in relation to environmental management.
  • Provide input into environmental issues including reviewing and interpreting data, relating to planning and approval processes.
  • Oversee the management of all Biodiversity, Rehabilitation, Land Management, and Cultural Heritage Areas
  • Complete internal & external reporting of environmental data e.g. NGERS, NPI, AEMR and EPL annual returns
About your experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science and/or relevant discipline
  • ESSENTIAL - experience in coal mining and/or the resources industry or heavy industry
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the NSW Coal Mining statutory and legislative obligations
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface at all stakeholder levels and build strong positive relationships
  • Preferably have experience with Government and community liaison
