Counsellor opportunity working within Federal Government

Your new company

This highly regarded federal government service is responsible for the provision of a support network for veteran and defence force communities and their families. You will be working as part of an Australian wide team who address a wide spectrum of needs by providing support such as health and community care, rehabilitation, counselling, income support and education assistance. You would be joining a team of passionate and highly professional specialist staff, within a supportive working environment which provides clinical supervision, professional development opportunities and peer and management support.

Your new role

In your new position as Counsellor you will be the primary point of contact for those who require support ensuring that individuals are receiving a variety of services based on their needs. You will be required to work collaboratively with your peers and will be liaising with families and third party providers connected with the client. You will be the single point of contact for dependents of deceased Defence Force personnel, provisioning services based upon the needs of the individual. You will use problem solving skills and work to find solutions for your client’s needs. You will be used to working within frameworks, guidelines, policies and procedures. You will facilitate the delivery of counselling and other programs to Veterans, ADF personnel and their families in rural and outer metropolitan areas.

This role is offered on a full time contract, initially for 12 months with the possibility of extension.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualifications as a registered psychologist with full AHPRA registration or as a mental health accredited social worker registered with AASW
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by those who have served in the Australian Defence Force
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC)/ Working with Vulnerable People Checks
  • You must have excellent clinical experience
  • You must be comfortable managing your own workload, working to time frames and deadlines ensuring high quality in all aspects of your work
