The Health and Safety Directorate shapes and leads work health and safety across the department by delivering services and support to our workplaces to assist them in achieving a safe working and learning environments.

About the Unit

The Risk Management Unit work proactively and in partnership with schools and workplaces to provide safe working and learning environments through the delivery of specialist advice, support services and programs to manage risk and compliance, fostering continuous improvement in health, safety and wellbeing. The unit provides on the ground, practical support to assist schools to continue to improve so that our working and learning environments are as safe as possible.

About the Role

We are looking for individuals who can supports NSW schools in building vibrant, tolerant and harmonious school communities. The role forms part of a collaborative and consultative school support team who provide on the ground support to schools.

The Community Development Officer works as part of a team to support schools and the wider community in the development of approaches which strengthen the achievement of high expectations and common goals to improve social, emotional, health and educational outcomes. The role maintains key relationships with all partners and has a strong focus on customer service to ensure program design meets customer needs and service delivery requirements.

It€™s an exciting environment where no two days are the same. But on a typical day you might find yourself:

  • Developing and incorporating a community engagement vision or strategy that reflects the school€™s context and needs
  • Developing and delivering a framework for schools to improve the way they engage parents and the wider school community
  • Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of departmental policies and procedures related to community engagement, cultural diversity and education
  • Assisting schools to access community services by strengthening interagency collaboration and using available resources effectively to enhance educational outcomes
  • Supporting the development and implementation of programs for students, in conjunction with external organisations and services, that promote inclusivity and equity

  • Relevant experience in the development and implementation of programs and strategies to enhance community engagement in schools
  • Working with Children Check for paid employment or willingness to obtain one
  • Current Driver€™s Licence and willingness to drive/travel
