Cultural Support Plan Officer

McArthur ACT are currently seeking applications from suitably experienced candidates to take on the role of Cultural Support Plan Officer. As part of this role, you will work with our client in meeting the cultural care needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.

As part of this role, the Cultural Support Plan Officer will develop Cultural Care plans through a collaborative approach for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people. The plan will be developed in line with ACT Legislation and include proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the identity and connection to culture for the child or young person as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.


  • Consult with relevant parties including the child's family, community, carers, and the child or young person.
  • Prepare written cultural care plans to a professional standard and in line with legislation, policy and best practice.
  • Present cultural care plans to the cultural care panel for review.
  • Be flexible to undertake some out-of-hours work in order to consult appropriately.
  • Maintain written and electronic records in accordance with My Story and the agency's policy and procedures.
  • Regularly meet and report to Manager (at least monthly) on the progress of plans.
  • Attend team and centre meetings.
  • Attend regular supervision meetings with the Manager.
  • Attend any external meetings, committees, planning groups or other events as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Adhere to and implement the policies of the agency.
  • Complete other duties as required to meet the needs of the Program/Agency.


  • Demonstrated capacity to develop cultural care plans for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People that supports their connection to culture and community.
  • Relevant ACT checks including Suitability Check (Child, Youth and Protection Services), National Police Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card (ACT) and Working with Children Check (NSW)
  • Ability to work with and maintain data systems.
  • Computer skills in a Windows environment and use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and other relevant software applications.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
  • Professional experience within the out of home care sector and/or related fields.
  • Ability to engage collaboratively with children, young people, parents, extended family, carers and professionals with a view to strengthen the child's connection to their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community and culture.
  • Excellent written communication skills including skills in research.
  • Proficient in word processing and computer data entry.


  • Experience in developing cultural care plans for children in out of home care.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection and Out of Home Care structures.

To be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement of this role.
