Located close to the Barossa and Clare Valley regions, this integrated wool and tourism enterprise is home to one of the oldest Merino stud in South Australia. Currently running both a stud and commercial Merino operation on 1,900 acres, the property is known for its integrated high quality woollen products and tourism operations.

Position

As Farm Manager, you will work closely with the management team to efficiently manage the stud and commercial Merino wool enterprise and coordinate all farm operations in this vertically integrated wool and tourism enterprise. A key aspect of this role will be to ensure stock and pasture management are to best practise and the livestock, pasture and fodder record keeping is up to date. The Farm Manager will be key to optimising current and long-term production and animal health objectives following sustainable farming and livestock welfare practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain the stock and pasture management programs
  • Supervise and lead casual staff and contractors
  • Manage animal husbandry and feeding requirements
  • Document and record on all livestock breeding and paddock records
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on, plant and machinery equipment
  • Conduct property developments including fencing, water and pasture improvements
  • Take pride in the property and maintain its presentation to company standards

Skills and Experience

  • Experience within a similar farm / stock management role
  • Ability to manage animals in a way that causes them minimum stress
  • Lifetime Ewe Management experience
  • Proficiency in farm management software and Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work unsupervised and manage staff
  • Competent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to operate and maintain tractors and other motor driven farm equipment

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications related to farm management or agriculture (highly desirable)
  • A current and unrestricted driver’s licence
  • Farm Chemical User accreditation
  • Wool classer’s certificate (advantageous)

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package, inclusive of comfortable 4 bedroom family home, will be negotiated to reflect skills and experience.
