Role purpose:

The Welding Engineer will work closely with Lead Welding Engineer and Welding Inspectors to assure full site compliance with respective welding standards (EN 15085, AS 1554) and BT Special Process Directive BT008151. He/She will be a role model as a welding expert focused on welding process compliance and welding quality. He/She will be developing welding technology and assuring all relevant documents to meet the desired standards. He/She will be supporting welders’ training and qualification process, to make sure they hold the required qualification relevant for the job, at any given time. He/She will be reviewing suppliers’ documents and provide the feedback if presented suppliers' welding processes meet BT standards. He/She will be an expert in containing welding-related non-conformances. He/She will be advising other departments, on welding-related queries, when requested.

Key responsibilities:

-
Reviewing the design, its feasibility for welding, and advising if any changes are required

-
Preparing Weld Maps/WPS/Welders' Qualification Certs (or verifying existing ones)

-
Driving WPQR development process

-
Advising on how to contain welding non-compliances and set NCR dispositions

-
Responding to vendors concession requests

-
Preparing work instructions and procedures for specific welding processes

Qualifications

It is expected you will have the following qualifications:

-
Technical background (mechanical engineer/welding engineer/metallurgist or similar)

-
Knowledge and understanding of the welding processes

-
Ability to read technical drawings and weld symbols

-
Experience in creating or reviewing welding quality documents (WPQR/WPS/Welders' qual/NDT reports)

-
Basic IT skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook)

-
Qualified as one of the following - IWE/IWT/IWS (International Welding Engineer, Technologist, or Specialist)

-
Qualified as IWI (International Welding Inspector)

-
Familiarity with the standards: EN ISO 15085, EN ISO 3834 and EN ISO 9606, EN ISO 5817, EN ISO 15614, AS1554

The following will be seen as an advantage, if present:

Formal qualification in mechanical engineering, welding processes, metallurgy or similar (B Sc, MSc)

Qualified as one of the following - IWE/IWT/IWS (International Welding Engineer, Technologist, or Specialist)

-
Qualified as IWI (International Welding Inspector)

-
Familiarity with the standards: EN ISO 15085, EN ISO 3834 and EN ISO 9606, EN ISO 5817, EN ISO 15614, AS1554
