Gold Fields Australia Metallurgy Graduate Program

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Graduate Metallurgist to join their Processing department at St Ives Gold Mine. This position is for first and second year graduates within a Metallurgy field looking at commencing their careers within an international gold mining company. The Gold Fields Australia Graduate Metallurgist program offers tailored mentoring, technical development and role specific training to help you succeed. We support our graduates with unique technical development that begins with a flexible two-year program.


This role is offered on an 8 days on and 6 days off and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie. Bus transportation is offered to and from site daily, and relocation assistance will be offered to the successful candidate if required.

Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, you will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of production, recovery & efficiency targets of mineral processing operations by demonstrating acquired knowledge and developing practical experience in the work environment by assisting in the provision of a qualified metallurgical service.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure the companies’ regulatory obligations are met by assisting with the implementation of ICMI cyanide code.
  • Assist in the goal of ensuring minimal disruption to mineral processing with the timely distribution of processing related instructions to appropriate personnel and business partners.
  • Ensure that production, recovery and efficiency targets are achieved through accurate metallurgical work by applying due diligence and ensuring the care, calibration, maintenance of related equipment.
  • Improve the overall effectiveness of the processing team by providing support and assistance in related areas as directed.
  • Ensure good maintenance of company assets by conducting regular pre-start inspections, carrying out minor maintenance notifying appropriate personnel in the appropriate manner when observing items requiring service or repair.

Key factors to your success include;

  • Possess a recognised tertiary degree in Metallurgy or related discipline
  • Demonstrated mining industry work experience – preferably gold – would be an advantage
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and exposure to relevant mining software
  • Ability to be flexible with work rosters is essential
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Current WA C Class Manual Drivers Licence
  • National Police Clearance will be required to be completed
