Join one of the leading Environmental consultancies within NSW who are working throughout the State to deliver diverse projects including impact assessment, offsetting projects and monitoring programs. This consultancy is a market leader in the provision of specialist terrestrial, marine and aquatic ecology services and have recently secured significant work in this area.

This consultancy is made up of a multi-disciplinary team of ecologists, archaeologists, environmental consultants, heritage architects and other dedicated environmental professionals.

Your new role
The consultancy are seeking a Principal Ecology Consultant to join their team. You will ideally have a minimum of 6 to 8 years (or more) experience in the Natural resource management (NRM) industry or equivalent, preferably within a consultancy. The role is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio, and providing ecological advice to clients based on field survey, research and within the context of the legislative framework in NSW.

This position is ordinarily based in the Sydney area, however with active projects over most of NSW, work from home, or from a regional NSW location will be strongly considered. The business is well versed in inclusion and communication with their an existing geographically dispersed team.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A tertiary qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology or another relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 to 8+ years’ experience undertaking field-based surveys, data analysis and reporting in a consulting capacity.
  • Proven ability to provide technical ecological advice on large and diverse projects along with providing technical oversight to junior team members.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation and planning policies.
  • An existing BAM accreditation is an advantage, alternatively, the desire and capacity to become BAM accredited based on your existing experience.
  • Experience in preparing ecological reports, which may include, impact assessments (BDARs and FFAs), monitoring reports, and Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessments (BSSARs).
  • High PCT (Plant Community Type) assessment skills and experience
  • A willingness to travel throughout NSW to perform fieldwork campaigns and mentor our junior team members.
  • Vegetation community identification skills within NSW would be an advantage, along with botanical skills
