About the Role:

To realise our vision, it is essential we provide effective leadership and support to the dairy industry and deliver innovative, well planned and collaborative regional extension and education activities in dairy regions. Joining our DairyTas team for a 12 month fixed term contract, this role will work closely with the regional networks including dairy farmers, dairy advisors and service providers ensuring all parties are engaged in the Research, Development and Extension programs and benefiting from the opportunities they deliver. This role has a strong focus on land, water and climate and will work state wide across Tasmania. Here are some examples of where you will make an impact.

  • Work directly with farmers and other stakeholders to drive engagement and understand their needs. Ensure valid and timely information is provided and networks are strong and effective.
  • Coordinate and implement plans and activities to ensure regional extension and education delivery is effective and drives practice change. Ensure that program delivery is aligned to regional priorities and supports the achievement of industry targets.
  • Deliver key initiatives including Cows Out of Creeks grant programme and Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan – Dairy engagement and delivery.
  • Engage and build collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders. This will include farmers and farmer networks, service providers, regional organisations and staff across Dairy Australia and the DairyTas team.
  • Manage or lead projects that delivery against strategic priorities for the region.
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of existing and emerging issues within the region through information networks at a regional, state and national level.
  • Use whole farm system knowledge, farmer behaviour knowledge and change management principles to ensure extension programs, products and services for farmers and their service providers are designed and delivered effectively.

Ideally you will be degree qualified in agriculture or have an extensive knowledge of the Australian dairy industry. Expertise in the areas of land, water and climate will strongly support you in this role. Just as important is your initiative and enthusiasm for:
