Farm hands do a variety of jobs, from the highly specialised to the relatively unskilled, often in the space of a single day! A farm hand might do something as simple as feeding chickens or as complex as repairing a tractor, so you may find farm hands who have few or no qualifications working alongside others who are very well-qualified in a specific area. Naturally, the more highly skilled hands earn more sometimes much more than their unskilled counterparts, so the more skills you have to work with, the better.
Obviously, not all farms are the same: Being a farm hand on a dairy farm is completely different from doing the 'same job' at a fruit and vegetable farm. However, all farm hands must enjoy working in the outdoors and love doing practical work of all kinds. Ability and experience working with machines or animals will be a bonus on many farms, too. Whatever your skills, you can expect a great deal of variety in your working day, so if you think that variety is the spice of life, this may be the job for you.
The average salary for open Farmhand jobs is currently $41,120, 55% lower than the national average salary for all jobs which is $91,326.
