Fruit picking is very seasonal, so it's great as a summer job if you're still in school or university. It can also be quite physically demanding another reason it's usually done by young people! On the plus side, it's one of the few modern jobs you can do in the outside air and it can be very sociable, as you'll often be working with a smallish team of people for a few weeks or months. It's also strongly associated with immigrant labour: In Australia foreigners can get a Working Holiday Visa, which will allow you to work for a few weeks and earn some money while you're backpacking an increasingly popular option for younger fruit pickers. Sometimes, whole families will turn up for fruit picking work.
Many farmers and landowners also provide accommodation and occasionally food, so you won't have to worry too much about rent and bills for a few months, and you can forget all about commuting! Since you'll be spending a lot of time with your co-workers, good people skills are an absolute must.
The Adzuna recency index score for this search is 1.75, suggesting that demand for Fruit Picking job vacancies in Australia is increasing.
