A hairdresser will use a range of techniques to cut, colour, style, straighten and permanently curl or wave hair for their clients. Hairdressers are a vital part of the health and beauty industry and are highly skilled in their ability to handle hair. They also have extensive knowledge about different hair types and which products are most appropriate to use.
A key part of the role is making your customers feel comfortable and relaxed as you work with their hair. Interestingly, hairstyling is often considered to be one of the 'happiest' of professions. This could be due in part to the fact that hairdressers regularly form and maintain good relationships with their many clients. In most hair salons the senior hairdressers and advanced apprentices cut and colour hair while beginner apprentices will usually undertake routine tasks while they are learning, like preparing styling materials, shampooing hair and applying and removing simple hair treatments.
