Human resource professionals develop, plan, implement and evaluate activities revolving around staff recruitment, dispute resolution and advising on workplace matters, as well as representing employer, commercial, industrial, union and other parties in negotiations on issues like rates of pay, enterprise bargaining and conditions of employment.
They may also be involved with the administration and organisation of recruitment and the employment and training of an organisation's workforce. They are generally responsible for any processes that concern staff, like health and safety, conditions of employment and employee relations. They are required to maintain records on matters such as leave, entitlements, wages and superannuation. Human resources staff also advise management on matters, policies and procedures regarding employees and may take part in discussions between employees and management, or between unions and employers.

Successful human resources professionals are generally good with details and have strong people and interpersonal skills. They are excellent communicators, consistently keeping employees and managers informed on the status of issues, queries and concerns.
