Medical receptionists are responsible for providing administrative assistance to employers and colleagues in medical environments including GP clinics, hospitals, community health centres and academic research environments. They make sure the work environment runs smoothly by performing a number of tasks that allow the medical professionals to focus on their own particular roles. A medical receptionist working in a smaller private practice will report directly to their employer, while those working in places like research facilities will tend to specialise in one area and might work alongside department administrators.
A medical receptionist will often use both manual and computerised systems to make sure that patient records are kept fully up to date. They also deal with the public and make sure that interaction between the patient and the medical establishment runs smoothly at all times. The gender ratio in this profession is quite unbalanced. Many more women than men apply for these positions but there is no good reason for this and men shouldn't be discouraged from applying.
The average salary for open Medical Receptionist jobs is currently $55,499, 37% lower than the national average salary for all jobs which is $86,902.
