If you love the idea of packing a suitcase and exploring new destinations, then helping others to plan their travel might be the career for you. Travel agents help people discover new places, new experiences and get the most from their holidays by providing information, advice and booking services.
Most of the work is done face to face so it's a job that really suits people who have a love of helping others and are comfortable dealing with people. Travel agents need to be familiar with lots of destinations and travel products so it's helpful to have a great memory.
Travel agents work in large organisations, boutique and specialty travel organisations or in call centres. Often travel agents specialise in a particular area such as business, international or domestic travel. They need to be able to work in a fast paced environment and it's helpful to have a good geographical knowledge.
Most travel agents work on a commission and work long hours including weekends. They also regularly travel to keep up to date with new destinations and travel products.
